Bursary Programs

The 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC10) is delighted to announce the availability of bursaries designed to improve the accessibility of the congress to young researchers. Several Bursary Programs are available, facilitated by EuChemS and the EuChemS Member Societies listed below. Each Partner Society has established its own criteria for its Bursary Program. Applications must be submitted in accordance with the regulations of the respective Society, available via the links below.

EuChemS Bursary

The European Chemical Society provides bursaries for early career researchers (bachelor, masters and PhD students) who actively attend ECC10. More information and the application form can be found on the website below.

KVCV/SRC Bursary

Bursaries for KVCV (Royal Flemish chemical Society) and SRC (Walloon Royal Chemical Society) members are available to PhD students at a Belgian university who actively attend ECC10. Rules are available via the respective websites below.

German Chemical Society (GDCh) Bursary

The GDCh offers travel grants of up to €350 for students and PhD candidates, provided they present a poster or give an oral presentation at ECC10.

Austrian Chemical Society (GÖCH) Bursary

The GÖCH offers bursaries (max. €500 per person) for attending ECC10. Master students get priority, while PhD students also qualify. Active participation in ECC10 with an accepted oral or poster presentation is required.

Hungarian Chemical Society (MKE) Bursary

MKE offers bursaries of €425 for people up to 35 years attending ECC10, with a submitted abstract.

UAntwerp Travel Grants – Global Minds Program

UAntwerp offers 7 Travel Grants of €500 to support junion researchers from the Global South to participate in ECC10 in Antwerp.

For Who?
The travel grants are eligible for participants working at a university or research institute of any of the VLIRUOS Global Mind Countries* (Our Partner Countries: A Visual Overview). PhD students, postdocs or young professors (< 35 years) are eligible for a travel grant (500 euro per person to cover in first instance the hotel costs and if budget is left part of the travel costs), irrespective if they submit for a poster or oral presentation.

Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroun, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Guinee, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
Asia: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Vietnam
Latin America: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Nicaragua, Peru, Suriname

Application
Applicants will have to submit a motivation letter, a copy of their ECC10 submitted abstract, a short CV of maximum 2 pages and a proof of employment in the Global South Countries listed below, that is still active at the moment of the ECC10 conference.

Selection
A grant selection committee of UAntwerp professors that are part of the scientific and organizing committee of ECC10 will prioritize grant awarding if more than 7 applications are received: 3 grants will be reserved for PhD students and 4 for postdocs/professors. An optimum geographic spread will be aimed for as well as an optimal spread among research fields.

Rules
As the travel grant need to be issued according to local UAntwerp regulations, the grant can only be used to book a hotel and/or travel costs through the secretary of Chemistry of UAntwerp. No budget can be transferred directly to the grant receiver.

Each grant receiver will receive support from the secretary from the department of Chemistry of UAntwerp to make sure the rules of the university and Global Minds program (VLIR-UOS) will be followed correctly. They will check with you hotel opportunities and book the hotel for you and pay it directly from the grant up to a total budget of maximum 500 euro. Any remaining budget of the received grant of 500 euro can be spend on eligible transport costs such as e.g. the train to and from the airport to Antwerp or a bus or tram ticket from the hotel to the conference venue;

At the latest 5 days after the end of the ECC10 conference, each grant receivers has to submit a maximum 1 page report on their key experiences, skills obtained and new collaborations made. They will be asked suggestions for future events to help maximize Global South participation in future.

Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV) Bursary

If you have been a member of the KNCV for at least 2 years and you are below the age of 36, travel bursaries might be available.

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Grants for Carers and Accessibility Grants

To support a diverse and inclusive environment at ECC10, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) offers two dedicated funding schemes to assist with travel-related costs. The Grants for Carers and Accessibility Grants are designed to help attendees cover additional expenses arising from caring responsibilities or specific accessibility needs when participating in the congress. These grants provide up to £1,200 per year and are available to all RSC members, as well as non-members based in the UK or Republic of Ireland. Please note that these funds are intended for support costs specifically and cannot be used for registration fees.
